Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
