Reigning Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a record £11m in earnings.
She received nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
