Her Royal Highness's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Compassion and Love
The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.
A Gradual Return
The princess has been making her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
