Former Treasury Secretary Summers Steps Down from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership
Former US treasury secretary Lawrence Summers is departing from the governing body at OpenAI, just several days after a series of electronic messages between him and notorious criminal the accused trafficker became widely known.
The economist commented in an announcement that he was "grateful for the privilege to have served, excited about the potential of the company, and anticipate following their progress".
Summers, who once led the prestigious university, stated on recently that he would be scaling back from public roles due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.
Email Communications
The newly public messages showed that the official corresponded with the financier until the 24 hours preceding his 2019 arrest for alleged sex trafficking of young people.
In another announcement, the technology organization expressed it understood his determination to depart.
"We value his many contributions and the insight he brought to the Board," the organization commented.
Legislative Background
This development follows after the entire Congress of Congress decided on Tuesday to endorse a measure that would compel the federal prosecutors to release its documents on the case.
The legislation will afterward head to the office of President Trump for signature. The President has stated he intends to approve the measure, after changing his position on the issue following pressure from his supporters.

A batch of financier-linked emails disclosed by the legislative panel recently mentioned multiple high-profile figures in the billionaire's past associates, without implying any legal wrongdoing by those individuals.
The communications showed that the economist and Jeffrey Epstein dined together frequently, with he often seeking to connect the official to influential global figures.
Individual Statement
After the emails were released with the general audience, he stated he accepted "complete accountability for my ill-advised judgment to persist in communicating with Mr Epstein".
He continued that he desired "to reestablish confidence and mend bonds with the individuals closest to me".
Previous Positions
The economist occupied senior posts under party leaders; serving as Treasury chief under Bill Clinton, and as head of the White House economic team under the former leader.
He led the university from five years and is still a professor there. When stating his withdrawal from public commitments previously on this week, he stated he would persist with his educational duties.
Other Impacts
Following the economist's declaration on earlier this week, the Center for American Progress, a liberal research organization in DC where Summers was a senior fellow, verified that Summers was no longer connected with the group.
He joined the board of the AI company, which creates the AI chatbot, in 2023 - following a unsuccessful effort to oust its CEO OpenAI's head.
