The winter transfer window proves to be a time of significant rumour and potential big-money moves. A number of high-profile stars are being connected to transfers away from their current teams. We examine some of the major figures that might be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward available, reports suggest a major move is close. The 25-year-old has a deal with a sizeable buy-out clause active for a brief period in early January. Latest developments point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Other interested parties like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The English defender has excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Anfield falling through. With his deal set to run out in the summer, January is the London club's last chance to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, such as Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. However, a winter exit is considered unlikely, particularly given the manager's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has found first-team minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although finishing as the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started only a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London outfit would be open to a transfer for the correct price, thought to be in the region of £40 million. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

R. Neves

This Portugal playmaker could be poised for a return to the Premier League after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, and with his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spain that he would be willing to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a potential suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The proven English striker has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his fading chances of being in the England squad. But, arranging a deal presents significant hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported huge salary make any move difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as interested parties.

C. Gallagher

This dynamic English midfielder drew considerable interest in the off-season but stayed at Atlético. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
