Accused Stalker Inquired: 'But Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a voicemail message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard call records and data retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most covered investigations and continues to be open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am she? Then what? Is that not important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I just want to discover," the recording stated.
The panel was informed that via emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, sent early photographs to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the evidence, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with family friends of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I won't give up and I will prove my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant established a association via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.
Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be considered genuine in the period preceding the appearance to the village, that area, in December 2024.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in last November, planning trying to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the appearance to their home, the defendant sent a communication which expressed: "We are sat outside the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I desired to do this with someone else I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
