A Heap of Anime News Landed During the Holidays
The winter break offer a multitude of activities far superior than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements surfaced during the holidays, and if you overlooked any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they are probably mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
